Position Summary

We are seeking a knowledgeable and client-focused Tax Preparer to join our growing accounting team.

The Tax Preparer will be responsible for preparing accurate individual and business tax returns, assisting clients with tax-related questions, ensuring compliance with federal and state tax regulations, and delivering exceptional customer service. Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review individual, business, partnership, trust, and corporate tax returns, as applicable.
  • Conduct client interviews to gather financial information and ensure accurate tax reporting.
  • Analyze financial records and supporting documentation to prepare complete and accurate tax filings.
  • Research tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and identify tax-saving opportunities for clients.
  • Respond to client inquiries regarding tax filings, notices, and general tax matters.
  • Work collaboratively with CPAs, Bookkeepers, and other team members to meet filing deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate and organized client files and documentation.
  • Review completed tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Assist with tax planning strategies and year-round client advisory services.
  • Stay current on changes to federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Contribute ideas to improve tax preparation workflows and client service processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of individual and business tax preparation experience.
  • Working knowledge of federal and Maryland tax regulations.
  • Experience preparing individual (Form 1040) and small business tax returns.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines during peak tax seasons.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to maintaining client confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrolled Agent (EA), CPA, or accounting degree preferred.
  • Experience working in a public accounting or tax preparation firm.
  • Experience using professional tax preparation software (Drake, UltraTax, ProSeries, Lacerte, or similar).
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online or Desktop.
  • Familiarity with bookkeeping and payroll processes.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
