Position Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and client-focused Tax Preparer to join our growing accounting team.
The Tax Preparer will be responsible for preparing accurate individual and business tax returns, assisting clients with tax-related questions, ensuring compliance with federal and state tax regulations, and delivering exceptional customer service. Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and review individual, business, partnership, trust, and corporate tax returns, as applicable.
- Conduct client interviews to gather financial information and ensure accurate tax reporting.
- Analyze financial records and supporting documentation to prepare complete and accurate tax filings.
- Research tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and identify tax-saving opportunities for clients.
- Respond to client inquiries regarding tax filings, notices, and general tax matters.
- Work collaboratively with CPAs, Bookkeepers, and other team members to meet filing deadlines.
- Maintain accurate and organized client files and documentation.
- Review completed tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Assist with tax planning strategies and year-round client advisory services.
- Stay current on changes to federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Contribute ideas to improve tax preparation workflows and client service processes.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2–3 years of individual and business tax preparation experience.
- Working knowledge of federal and Maryland tax regulations.
- Experience preparing individual (Form 1040) and small business tax returns.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines during peak tax seasons.
- High level of integrity and commitment to maintaining client confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Enrolled Agent (EA), CPA, or accounting degree preferred.
- Experience working in a public accounting or tax preparation firm.
- Experience using professional tax preparation software (Drake, UltraTax, ProSeries, Lacerte, or similar).
- Experience with QuickBooks Online or Desktop.
- Familiarity with bookkeeping and payroll processes.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
